Examinations

Dance is a universal language that connects us all, and our syllabi are specially designed to welcome you to this wonderful community. No matter what you are looking for, there are options for every skill level.

We want to offer specific and safe skills and technique to the all abilities dancer. Students are offered the chance to sit examinations and receive recognition for all of their efforts. Just like every other dancer. There is also the opportunity to become a student teacher or teacher under the guidance of the registered studio owner.

The exams are more casual than regular dance exams, the examiners have been trained to understand and adapt to situations that may arise in the exam room, due to sensory issues. They have been trained to deal with fight or flight mode.

The main goal is to provide a fun a positive experience that students will want to continue to learn and complete examinations.

Exam Information

Examination Results

Examinations are designed to give the students a goal to work to throughout the year. All work is progressive and designed to develop co-ordination, strength, sensory integration, sensory - motor development, perceptual - motor development and dance style.

Examination results are assigned based on the following marks:

50 - 55.5 Pass
56 - 65.5 Pass Plus
66 - 75.5 Commended
76 - 85.5 Highly Commended
86 - 95.5 Honours
96 - 100 Honours Plus

The Examiner's decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Class Assessments

I.D.E.A aims to encourage every student to keep working towards reaching the highest standard possible for their ability. We want to provide an opportunity for all students within their studio to be a part of the IDEA Examination Session. Teachers will be able to adapt each group’s performance to showcase their student’s abilities and potential. The exercises that may be presented will be selected by the Teacher in accordance with the I.D.EA class assessment protocol.

Assessments are for the beginner student or the student who may not have had the opportunity to complete all exercises in time for the examination season but want to work towards a goal and be with their friends. The foundation level is perfect for these students who can then go on to sit the full examination the following year. Students can be entered in groups of up to 4. Teachers are able to come into the examination room and dance with students

Students who are entered for assessments are marked with more weighting on performance and style and less emphasis on technical ability.

Medal test results are attributed based on the following marks:

50 - 59.5 Commendable
60 - 79.5 High Achievement
80 - 100 Outstanding

Video Examinations

For studios that cannot possible accommodate times throughout the year or would prefer to not have an examiner present have the option of sending in Video examinations.

Please make sure that video examinations are recorded in full without stopping
